Like the turtle after which we are named, guests that have been here for a few days are so relaxed that they are moving about as quickly as the aforementioned turtle. One guest was sooo relaxed that he slept in two mornings in a row and completely missed his planned fishing trips...ohh those glorious beds!

What are YOU doing? The sky is blue, the sun is hot and there's no place I'd rather be than here; sitting out under the umbrella enjoying my book, swimming in the lake and, oh yes, the kayak is calling my name but that will keep for another day.
The canoes and kayaks arrived and I'm excited to go out on the kayak, which I've never tried before...I have a feeling it's going to be my new favourite activity. The loons seem to be enjoying the view of our cottages from the lake as it seems they are always around. Thankfully the geese are gone. It's usually around this time of year when the herons like to fish of our docks. How they can stand for hours and with such devoted concentration just to get lunch is amazing...perhaps a lesson in observing them.
After having lived for two years with mud and construction here, it is a joy for me now, to see the green grass, the shrubs and flowers growing by the day and my vision of how beautiful this little piece of paradise can be is coming alive. Oh yes, and the turtles, both painted and snapping, have really been enjoying my new landscaping! We have been putting our 'critter-resistor' screens out over any newly laid nests that we can see. These work best for the snapping turtle nests as we can generally detect a new nest as it is large. We have to work on the painted turtle 's nest as it is so small, we seem to miss them. We know that we've missed them because we see the evidence the next day. Well. I guess that's the cycle of life; everyone has to eat!
At this time of year we are looking for as many signs of the warmer weather to come as possible. The ice on the lake is thawing, the robin was singing and the wild turkeys are strutting around the lawn.
We are looking forward to our first season at Turtlehill and to meeting our guests.
I woke the other morning, into the kitchen to put the coffee on but I was drawn to the window that overlooks the lake...it had snowed during the night and now as the sun rose, the snow blanketed landscape was bathed in the most exquisite shade of pink.
With each day comes something else to be thankful for.
Over the break my husband and I decided to try something different. We bought snowshoes. Not the original ones but the brand new metal ones. However, the weather didn't co-operate. After having plenty of snow before Xmas, sufficient enough for our purpose anyway, the sun shone brightly, the celsius rose into the double digits and ....no snow, just lovely green grass. After lamenting all week and staring at our new snowshoes leaning against the porch wall, we woke to a vista blanketed in snow. As luck would have it, we had to drive in it and not play in it....just hope it stays until we're not so busy.
We are very excited today as we have launched our web-site! We are live! We hope those of you who look at the site, will take some time to email us with your comments on it as we would appreciate feedback.
I'm looking forward to when we are live on the web. Hopefully, this week will be it. I am also looking forward to meeting our future guests and hope that they will enjoy the space as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
