Kinga: Hello Sharon We enjoyed reading the article about your cottages. We had such a good time staying in your beautiful waterfront resort and hope to return. You have done an amazing job decorating all cottages and we felt like home in Hiacynth. This fall we have also explored Kingston and took the 1000 Island Cruise. Kingston/Newboro area is really beautiful. Have a wonderful and safe winter and Merry Christmas (it's coming so soon). :) Kinga & Joe  (11.6.11,5:42 PM)

GUESTS

Like the turtle after which we are named, guests that have been here for a few days are so relaxed that they are moving about as quickly as the aforementioned turtle. One guest was sooo relaxed that he slept in two mornings in a row and completely missed his planned fishing trips...ohh those glorious beds!

Westport Music Festival is on this coming weekend Saturday Aug 13th. Coming also to Newboro from the August 25th to 28th, Artsnewboro will be presenting the play, 'Love Letters' as Lunch and Dinner theatre. We are proud to be sponsors of both events bringing culture for our enjoyment.

Call us for great rates, minimum 2 nights and come see what everyone is talking about!

Cheers

What are YOU doing?  The sky is blue, the sun is hot and there's no place I'd rather be than here; sitting out under the umbrella enjoying my book, swimming in the lake and, oh yes, the kayak is calling my name but that will keep for another day.

Cheers

The canoes and kayaks arrived and I'm excited to go out on the kayak, which I've never tried before...I have a feeling it's going to be my new favourite activity. The loons seem to be enjoying the view of our cottages from the lake as it seems they are always around. Thankfully the geese are gone. It's usually around this time of year when the herons like to fish of our docks. How they can stand for hours and with such devoted concentration just to get lunch is amazing...perhaps a lesson in observing them.

After having lived for two years with mud and construction here, it is a joy for me now, to see the green grass, the shrubs and flowers growing by the day and my vision of how beautiful this little piece of paradise can be is coming alive. Oh yes, and the turtles, both painted and snapping, have really been enjoying my new landscaping! We have been putting our 'critter-resistor' screens out over any newly laid nests that we can see. These work best for the snapping turtle nests as we can generally detect a new nest as it is large. We have to work on the painted turtle 's nest as it is so small, we seem to miss them. We know that we've missed them because we see the evidence the next day. Well. I guess that's the cycle of life; everyone has to eat!

At this time of year we are looking for as many signs of the warmer weather to come as possible. The ice on the lake is thawing, the robin was singing and the wild turkeys are strutting around the lawn.

We are looking forward to our first season at Turtlehill and to meeting our guests.

Cheers

John Bartlett: Just thought you would like to know about the Bald Eagles we have on the lake this year.  I was kayaking by your dock last weekend and watched an Osprey dive bombing a Bald Eagle for about five minutes right in front of your place.  In my life as a bird watcher it was my most thrilling sighting. The Osprey just kept rising above then diving to within inches of the hapless eagle till it flapped away.  I have seen the eagle (s) three times in that same location in the last two weeks and have now been told they are nesting less than a kilometer away. This is great news for everyone interested in birds and is the crown jewel in the setting of our unusually wildlife rich-lake.  Hope you and your guests enjoy seeing the Bald Eagles as much as I did!  (6.23.11,12:16 PM)

I woke the other morning, into the kitchen to put the coffee on but I was drawn to the window that overlooks the lake...it had snowed during the night and now as the sun rose, the snow blanketed landscape was bathed in the most exquisite shade of pink.

With each day comes something else to be thankful for.

New Year

Happy New Year to everyone!

Over the break my husband and I decided to try something different. We bought snowshoes. Not the original ones but the brand new metal ones. However, the weather didn't co-operate. After having  plenty of snow before Xmas, sufficient enough for our purpose anyway, the sun shone brightly, the celsius rose into the double digits and ....no snow, just lovely green grass. After lamenting all week and staring at our new snowshoes leaning against the porch wall, we woke to a vista blanketed in snow. As luck would have it, we had to drive in it and not play in it....just hope it stays until we're not so busy.

Here's to winter playtime. Get out and enjoy it.

Cheers

Starry, starry night!

Last evening the night sky was awash with the brilliance of the Milky Way. We stood for sometime mesmerized by such a wonderous sight. How lucky we are here to be able to see it.

Come up and see for yourself!

Cheers

Katherine Stone: Congrats on getting the web site up and running - it looks fabulous, although nothing can compare to actually being on the property.  Thanks so much for the tour, the view to the lake and surrounding fall colour from each cottage just made me want to curl up in front of the fireplace and tuck into a good book.  You've done an amazing job which I appreciate even more when I see the "transformation" section of the web site.  Wow!  As a professional interior designer for over 30years I can guarantee your clients that they're in for a real treat.   I suggest you go for a well deserved holiday and rest up - once this gem is discovered your phone will be ringing off the hook!  (11.9.10,4:24 PM)
